The Line today - Clevedon section

Although very little of the line can be clearly seen today, if you know where to look the route of the line can be seen in places (and sometimes walked). The Main map shows the general route, and using the Detail Maps button on station pages, the route of the line and location of most stations can be found. ’The Line Today’ is split into Northern section, Clevedon section and Southern section to improve download times. This page shows the Clevedon section.
Tip: To help to locate the route, look for electricity sub-stations. They were often positioned on the old track bed, because generally ownership of the land was unknown after the closure of the line.

Clevedon All Saints
|
The location of Clevedon All Saints halt, can be seen here. The line ran along the route of this footpath near All Saints church. The halt was alongside this house where the wall stands today. Beyond is where the line crossed the Portishead road heading towards Portishead. See below. See also Then & now

Clevedon All Saints crossing
|
Looking from the opposite direction at house in above photo. The line crossed the Clevedon to Portishead road where the pedestrian crossing is today. The route of the line towards Clevedon passed to the left of house in the distance along route of path. See above.

Parnell Road crossing, Clevedon
|
The railway ran from the foreground away from the camera alongside the building towards The Triangle. Parnell Road crosses from left to right. The building may have been a smithy. There was a level crossing gate across the track by the building. The road meeting Parnell Road is Teignmouth Road which today follows the route of the line. Just behind the camera, a line branched off to the Gas Works. See also Then & now

Clevedon Triangle
|
Though there are are no remains, the route where trains passed through the streets can be seen near WH Smith. The line passed from the current precinct across the road by WH Smith and along this path beside the Conservative Club (once the Portishead extension was built) . Clevedon Station
|
Unfortunately, there is no sign today of the main Clevedon station or engine sheds etc. These were situated on the site of the main shopping precinct, and car park.
